The Stagcom 13th June Round Up

We were excited about the weekend just gone, and rightly so! With Euro 2016 kicking off, it was almost impossible not to get caught up in all the excitement.

You may have been caught up in it so much that you missed all the other action! Not to worry, as always we've covered it all for you below.

England Disappoint

England's record of never winning their opening match of a European Championship continued on Saturday evening. A last-gasp equaliser from Russia skipper Vasili Berezutski denied Roy Hodgson's side of victory after an Eric Dier free-kick had opened the scoring 15 minutes earlier.

The late equaliser was a crushing blow for England as they had dominated the game and could - and probably should have - scored more goals. The pressure is now on when the Three Lions take on Wales on Thursday afternoon!

Mixed Bag for Other Home Nations

Wales will go into Thursday's game against England full of confidence after winning their opener against Slovakia. Gareth Bale gave Wales the lead in first-half after wrong-footing the Slovakian keeper with a free-kick. Substitute Ondrej Duda equalised for Slovakia almost instantly after coming on, but Wales substitute Hal Robson-Kanu scored with a late scuffed effort to get Wales off to a flyer!

Northern Ireland failed to start their Euro 2016 campaign with the same success. Michael O'Neill's side were out played by Poland and succumbed to a second-half strike from Ajax striker Arkadiusz Milik. Northern Ireland will be worried that they failed to create any clear cut goal scoring opportunities, and will hope for better creativity when they face Ukraine next!

England Triumph

At least one England side were capable of achieving victory on Saturday. England defeated Australia 28-39 in the first Test in Brisbane. It was an impressive performance from England, especially after falling behind early on. Tries from Jonathan Joseph, Marland Yarde and Jack Nowell added to Owen Farrell's six penalty kicks to give England their first ever win in Brisbane, and only their fourth victory over the Wallabies in Australia!

Hamilton Hunts Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix after a tense battle with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel from start to finish of the race. Vettel overtook Hamilton at the start of the race but Ferrari decided to pit twice which allowed Mercedes' Hamilton to take control. Drivers' Standings leader Nico Rosberg could only finish in fifth place, which means Hamilton is now only nine points off his fellow Mercedes driver.
