The Stagcom 13th March Round Up
What a treat the weekend was; there was loads of sport on and the sun finally broke out - let's hope it's here to stay!
Whether it was the Six Nations or FA Cup that caught your attention, we managed to keep on top of it all to bring you are weekend round up.
No Shocks
The FA Cup has been full of shocks this season, but normal service resumed this weekend in the quarter-finals.
Non-league Lincoln City became the first team to reach the last eight in over a century, but were humbled by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening. Lincoln held their own in the first-half, but they couldn't quite hold out as Theo Walcott scored in injury time. The second-half was a more one sided affair with goals from Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and an own goal giving Arsenal a convincing 5-0 win.
Earlier in the day, Manchester City ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. David Silva gave the visitors an early lead, and a near post finish from Sergio Aguero in the second period confirmed victory.
Sunday's quarter-final between Tottenham Hotspur and Millwall was another one-sided affair as Spurs ran out 6-0 winners. Son Heung-min scored a hat-trick, with Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Vincent Janssen grabbing a goal apiece. The only downside for the hosts was Harry Kane having to go off early due to an ankle injury.
Chelsea host Manchester United in the remaining quarter-final, this evening - should be a cracker!
Prem Action
There were only four games in the Premier League over the weekend due to the FA Cup, but there were still plenty of talking points.
Hull gave themselves a relegation lifeline with a vital 2-1 victory over Swansea City at the KCOM Stadium. Substitute Oumar Niasse bagged a second-half brace to give Marco Silva a huge three points.
Liverpool boosted their top-four hopes with a narrow victory over Burnley at Anfield on Sunday. Ashley Barnes gave the Clarets a deserved lead, but on the stroke of half-time, Gini Wijnaldum drew Liverpool level. Emre Can then put Liverpool ahead on the hour mark and Liverpool held on to strengthen their hold on fourth spot.
There were also wins for Bournemouth and Everton over the weekend.
England Win Again
England retained their Six Nations title with a thumping victory over Scotland at Twickenham on Saturday. The win also sees England equal New Zealand's world record for consecutive wins at Test level.
Jonathan Joseph scored a hat-trick of tries, Danny Care grabbed a brace and Anthony Watson and Billy Vunipola scored a try apiece as England equalled their biggest ever winning margin over Scotland.
Friday night saw Wales beat Ireland 22-9 in Cardiff at the Principality Stadium. George North was the man of the match, going over twice to give Wales an important lead. Ireland rallied late on, but replacement Jamie Roberts went over at the end to seal victory for the hosts.
The other match of weekend saw France claim a bonus-point victory over Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Brits Out
It was a poor weekend for Brits at the Indian Wells over the weekend, with all exiting.
World number one Andy Murray suffered a shock defeat in the second round to qualifier Vasek Pospisil, losing 6-4 7-6 (7-5).
Murray had a bye in the first round and looked out of sorts throughout the match, dropping his serve on four occasions.
British number two Dan Evans was also beaten in the second round, going down in straight sets to Japan's Kei Nishikori.
And, to make it a clean sweep of British exits, Kyle Edmund was eliminated by the holder Novak Djokovic.
